 Ipswich Outdoor Group

Ipswich Outdoor Group has around 100 members (singles, couples and families) across a broad age range. Although many of our members live in and around Ipswich, we are open to people from all over Suffolk and the surrounding areas.

We believe our programme of events is varied and extensive enough that it has something for everyone. The content itself is the result of the ideas and hard efforts of our members who organise and run events throughout the year. Note that organising an event is not a membership requirement although we do of course actively encourage and support any of our members if they wish to do so.

Throughout the year we organise a number of weekend trips away in the UK (often around the longer Bank Holiday periods) to hilly and mountainous countryside (Wales, Lake District, Yorkshire Moors / Dales, Peak District) or to slightly less demanding terrain (Cotswolds or South / North Downs) or coastal areas (Cornwall / Devon / Norfolk). These weekends are well attended (12 people upwards). The accommodation is usually in Youth Hostels, although camping or B&B’s may also be used. Due to the numbers we are able to offer walking / cycling to suit all levels on most trips.

Interspersed between the long weekend trips above, we also run lots of local day / evening walks and cycle rides as well as other less strenuous opportunities for you to socialise (badminton, ten pin bowling, cultural & music festivals, cinema, theatre, BBQs, meals out etc). There is sure to be something for you.

Ipswich Outdoor Group is also affiliated (as a Local Group) to the YHA (England & Wales). The YHA stands for Youth Hostels Association and is a registered charity.

For more information about Ipswich Outdoor Group membership (i.e. current fees, the membership period, payment methods, obtaining an application form, where to return it) as well as learning more about how you can get involved in our activities, please contact Rachel via our dedicated email address enquiries@ipswichoutdoor.org or by telephone 0783 332 0306. Either way, Rachel will attempt to get back to you as soon as possible with the information you need or you can find out more by visiting our website: http://www.ipswichoutdoor.org/

The Waterfront Book Club

The Waterfront Book Club brings together people of all ages to read & talk about books from a variety of authors/genres over a glass of wine or a cup of coffee at the Danceeats! Café, Foundry Lane, Ipswich IP4 1DW.

We meet on the first Tuesday of the month at 6.00pm – 7.30pm and the first Thursday of the month at 6.00pm – 7.30pm. Both sessions are informal, but the discussions on Tuesday are helped along by a facilitator.

There is no joining fee, but members are asked to purchase their own books.

For our reading list, or if you would like more information please refer to the DanceEast website: http://www.danceeast.co.uk/Waterfront%20Book%20Club.aspx or email Gayle MacGregor on waterfrontbookclub@gmail.com. Please note the club is run by volunteers.
