Ipswich BMX Club
We cater for adults and children alike. If you can ride a bike you can race bmx.
For beginners the jumps can all be ridden through without any need to take off and without previous experience whilst the more experienced riders can jump through them at speeds of up to 30mph.
- Bring a bike and have a go – All we ask is you wear helmet and gloves for protection (some club helmets available).
There will always be advice on hand at club sessions for everyone involved including bike set-up advice, and in the near future we hope to have a Go-Ride coach in place to offer coaching to riders of all ages and abilities.
We meet at Landseer Park, Ipswich : Tuesday evenings @ 6.00pm: April to September, where we run gate (start) practice until dusk.
Yearly membership is £5.00 with no further costs to the Tuesday sessions, making this one of the cheapest sports to take part in.
Whilst being an individual sport this is very much a family sport, as all age categories compete at the same track throughout any given race day – Categories from 6 and under to 45+.
With two riders from Ipswich club, Ria Goodman winning at the World championships and Shaun Andrews claiming a 4th place finish the club has proved it can produce some of the very best riders.
It would be great to see new riders taking to the track, and with BMX inclusion in the Olympic games who knows you could be competing and winning at the Olympics in years to come.

Ipswich Diamonds Majorette Troupe
We were founded in the summer of 2001 by Rosemarie Richardson and Rebecca Robinson.
We are a non-profit organisation that makes our own leotards and uniforms from scratch etc. The survival of the Ipswich Diamonds is based on the amount of money that can be raised through the summer months, and through training costs. This is done by attending displays and fetes to promote the troupe, and also by our fundraising stall that accompanies us to almost all of our events. Because we are such a small troupe, the costs tend to be high, and hard to fund. We are looking for sponsorship/donations as we are trying to find funding for tracksuits and t-shirts and new uniforms.
We have been proud members of the UKFM (United Kingdom Federation of Majorettes and Baton Twirlers) since 2001 when the troupe first started out. We take part in 2 regional competitions a year, when we compete against the other troupes in the Ipswich/Felixstowe area. We also get the chance to compete at the ‘one off’ competitions that often include routines like aerials and twirl groups. After this, we then take part in the UKFM NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS, which takes place around Easter of each year.
The troupe’s proudest moment was when we received the Friendship Trophy in our first year. Each year, troupes are asked to nominate other troupes or members for special awards, the friendship trophy is one of these special awards. Another proud moment was when we won several trophies in the first year that we competed, it had given everyone in the troupe a well deserved confidence boost. And our members have been selected for Colour Guard positions over the years.
Our aim is to bring out the winner in each of our members whilst having fun. The trick is to have enough confidence to go out and compete with your head held high and a smile on your face no matter what is going on.
Win or lose, as long as the Ipswich Diamonds are working together as part of a team, we’re the strongest lot out there.
- We’re all winners, regardless of whether you have a trophy to prove it or not.
Ipswich Diamonds is the home of Deputy Miss UKFM 2011/12 – Its the second most important award when it comes to our majorette Federation and the Assistant Troupe Leader – Renée Richardson.
- Anyone aged 3+ can join us. We have no maximum age.
We meet on Mondays – 5.00pm – 7.00pm at All Hallows Church Hall, Landseer Road, Ipswich and Tuesdays – 6.00pm – 8.00pm at Downing Primary School, 48 Downing Close, Ipswich. It costs £2.50 per session attended.

Ipswich & Suffolk Youth Football League
In 1957 (yes fifty-seven!), Mr David Routh and a few friends decided to start up a Football League for boys teams in Ipswich.
If you have a year or two to spare, I am sure David would be delighted to let you know the history of those early years, but suffice to say that in 1957, the Ipswich Boys Combination was born. Through the years, a small number of footballers went on to make a living out of the game and in the late seventies, the League had to fall in line with the FA which sought to ensure that all youth football be played under their watchful eye. During the eighties more teams came forward until a change of name was felt appropriate. The League became the Ipswich & District Sunday Youth Football League.
In the late nineties. the League signed up to the introduction by the FA of Mini-Soccer and merged with the Suffolk & Essex Combination in June 2000, to become the Ipswich & Suffolk Youth League.
Now in its eleventh season, the League set out after the AGM (June 2011) with 15 divisions and 159 teams. And by the way, David Routh is still involved! Now it is looking to attain FA Charter Standard as a League and would welcome interest from new clubs for next season by May 2012.
Enquiries to Allan Girot allan.girot@talktalk.net and to access the league website: www.isyfl.co.uk
